RRR SPOTLIGHT ON...The Mercury Travel Club by Helen Bridgett

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're boarding the S.S. Blog Tour via Rachel's Random Resources to shine the spotlight on a Women's Fiction title from author Helen Bridgett.  It's the first book in a new(ish) with the second set to release March 2018, so the way I figure it, if you READ ALL ABOUT it now, you'll be all set and ready to go come 2018.  Sound good?  Great because that sounds like the ship's horn so all aboard that are coming aboard as we set our sights on today's title in the spotlight...

About the book...

He took her to dinner: that was annoying

He slept with her: that was hurtful

He bought new underwear to impress her: quite frankly astounding

He left me to bloody wash his FILTHY WHORING PANTS: INFURIATING!

After twenty-four years and eleven months of marriage, Angie Shepherd is divorced, dejected and facing a future of cardigans and cats. Best friend Patty is having none of it, and launches Angie into a variety of crazy schemes in search of her lost mojo.

But it s just not enough; what she really dreams of is beating her ex and becoming Entrepreneur of the Year. Channelling her inner Richard Branson, Angie invests her divorce settlement into The Mercury Travel Club, a travel agency with a twist. But as the club gets going, things don't go according to plan, and in this digital age, a little chaos brings the recognition Angie's been looking for.

Witty, entertaining and laugh-out-loud funny, this feel-good novel shows that it's never too late for a second chance.

About the book...
Romance writer Julia Landon knows how to write a happily-ever-after. Creating one for herself is a whole different story. But after a surprising–and surprisingly passionate–kiss under the mistletoe at Harmony Harbor’s holiday party last year, Julia thought she might have finally found her very own chance at true love. Until she learns her Mr. Tall, Dark, and Broodingly Handsome has sworn off relationships. Well, if she can’t have him in real life, Julia knows just how to get the next best thing….
Aidan’s only priority is to be the best single dad ever. And this year, he plans to make the holidays magical for his little girl, Ella Rose. But visions of stolen kisses under the mistletoe keep dancing in his head, and when he finds out Julia has written him into her latest novel, he can’t help imagining the possibilities of a future together. Little does he know, though, Julia has been keeping a secret that threatens all their dreams. Luckily, ’tis the season for a little Christmas magic.

Is it just me, or do bookish stories tend to draw you in THAT much more?

Here, we have one romantically inclined gal (at least when it comes to others), combination bookseller and secret writer (only secret to those around her, but she's ACTUALLY published), who is serving as a fairy godmother to Gallagher family...say what?  My thoughts exactly.  I mean, Julia is a GEM!  She's got imagination to boot, fabu story time ideas for entertaining the kiddos, and while things may not always turn out exactly as planned, she always has her heart in the right place.  So why the wish granting act?  That's what we're left to ponder and puzzle for a good portion of the story, as well as the sadness and guilt that she seems to wear like an old friend you couldn't escape if you wanted.  Good thing there's embarrassing moments, and eye candy to distract us, right?

Enter stage right, the eye candy...one Aidan Gallagher.  Now before you go getting all in a tizzy from his steamy good looks (which would be totally warranted), his career choice (can we say "man in uniform"?), or how he dotes on his daughter despite the straining relationship with his ex, I must warn you...all that glitters is not gold.  He's got a temper to him, which in this story equates to him jumping to conclusions, acting like a dog with a bone when he thinks he's found something, and being highly suspicious of pretty much everyone to some degree, but a full 100 degrees when it comes to Julia.  He's not buying her goody goody act and despite the fact that the town seems to think she's an angel in every way, he's not so certain.  Too bad...for him that is because the heart wants what it wants and these two go together like red and white on a candy cane.

In the end, I was pleasantly surprised by my trip to Harmony Harbor.  Here I was expecting a holiday themed Contemporary Romance with heart, and what I got was that but also a little mystery, a little intrigue, and even a ghostly presence intent on keeping the secrets she took to her grave (sorta).  I adored our leading lady, rooted for our leading man, and enjoyed meeting the myriad of characters that this small town seems to draw.  From the tall to small, the uniformed to the seemingly forgotten, the higher ups and the furry friends, there was always someone to know, to love or loathe, or get into it with for whatever reason with every turn of the page.  The holiday infusion made it the perfect book to open the coming reading season and the does of magic will warm your heart.

TLC BOOK TOURS: The Austen Escape by Katherine Reay

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Image result for jane austen characters

Today, we're joining the leagues of Austen-ites out there as we explore yet another original work of Fiction that takes its lead from her legacy, yet gives us something all its own.  From the number of books I've read that work off of this formula (and no, we're not talking about my less than up to par reading of the original works), you'd think it would get old fast.  I am here to say that given the right creative mind, it most certainly does....NOT.  Gotcha!  No, fair readers, I must say I've rather enjoyed the ventures I've had within this sub genre (of sorts) and today's title does nothing to disparage that idea.

So, if you'll be so kind, join me as we play host to a stop along the TLC Book Tour starring today's book of choice....

About the book...
After years of following her best friend’s lead, Mary Davies finds a whimsical trip back to Austen’s Regency England paves the way towards a new future.

Mary Davies lives and works in Austin, Texas, as an industrial engineer. She has an orderly and productive life, a job and colleagues that she enjoys—particularly a certain adorable, intelligent, and hilarious consultant. But something is missing for Mary. When her estranged and emotionally fragile childhood friend Isabel Dwyer offers Mary a two-week stay in a gorgeous manor house in Bath, Mary reluctantly agrees to come along, in hopes that the holiday will shake up her quiet life in just the right ways. But Mary gets more than she bargained for when Isabel loses her memory and fully believes that she lives in Regency England. Mary becomes dependent on a household of strangers to take care of Isabel until she wakes up.

With Mary in charge and surrounded by new friends, Isabel rests and enjoys the leisure of a Regency lady. But life gets even more complicated when Mary makes the discovery that her life and Isabel’s have intersected in more ways that she knew, and she finds herself caught between who Isabel was, who she seems to be, and the man who stands between them. Outings are undertaken, misunderstandings play out, and dancing ensues as this triangle works out their lives and hearts among a company of clever, well-informed people who have a great deal of conversation.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I must say, I do believe I enjoyed this story even more so than I might have first imagined.  I was prepared for a story playing homage to the tales written by this infamous writer, but what was delivered was something entirely more.
We all know a Mary, or perhaps ARE one to some degree ourselves, and feel quite content with the friendship we have with her.  If you're on the Isabel side of things, perhaps you enjoy the feeling of superiority her "innocence" or somewhat socially awkward presence brings.  If you're on the Mary side of things (*raises hand*), you may feel power in the fact that your search for knowledge and curiosity knows no bounds, despite your naivety working against you from time to time.  Neither end is truly a bad one to be on, so long as we take the other into account.  Here, Mary and Isabel are in for an eye-opening discovery about not only their pasts (new insight to old realizations), but their presents (GASP!  You don't want to know...now at least), and the off balance dance they've been unconsciously in their whole lives.  It's true what the caretaker of their vacation haven says...sometimes TRUTH can be discovered when we're NOT ourselves, but rather playing a part.
The only hangup I had was this...I was as thoroughly confused as our leading Mary as to Nathan's intentions!  I mean color me clueless (because let's face it, in some ways I'm much like our leading lady), but one moment he seems all flirty (but still gentlemanly), the next he couldn't seem any more interested than a cat in taking a bath, and still the next we're uncovering secrets that, well, quite frankly surprised the daylights out of me.  (Really, NEVER saw that one coming....N-E-V-E-R!)  So, while it could just be me, I'm not so certain it was...perhaps he just played his part a little TOO well and the guessing game was all a part of the grand scheme of things.
In the end, I am quite content in adding this to my own personal list of "Books for Austen fans", whether they happen to be one of the raving throng, or merely friends with her renowned works.  There's enough of the originals to recognize the players and their parts, but not quite so much as to take away from the original direction of the story unfolding.  I appreciated the literary exploration as much as the unraveling of the complicated relationships we girls sometimes have with one another. Don't deny it, you know it's true.  The story's steady pace never leaves you wondering when the end will be reached, but rather wishing it were further away...and the ending, well...I do believe I'm rather fond of it too.  ^_^  Truthfully, there were many things to be fond of within these pages, and I cordially invite you to discover them on our own.
